Ninja Gaiden 2 Black Shadow Dropped By Team Ninja, Out Now For PS5
Ninja Gaiden 2 originally released on the Xbox 360, back in 2008. A year later, PlayStation fans got Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, which had the story of NInja Gaiden 2, but there were a number of significant changes made to get the game running at a higher resolution on PS3.
More than a decade later though, Team Ninja has brought back Ninja Gaiden 2, remastered as Ninja Gaiden 2 Black. It was a shocking announcement, but perhaps the most shocking thing about it was that you can play Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, right now.
Team Ninja shadow-dropped the game during Xbox’s Developer Direct event today, alongside the news that we’re also getting a totally brand-new entry in the series with Ninja Gaiden 4.
While Ninja Gaiden 2 Black is out today, Ninja Gaiden 4 won’t arrive on PS5 and other current-gen platforms until sometime in Fall 2025.
Ninja Gaiden 2 Black takes the original 2008 game and brings it into the modern-day landscape with an Unreal Engine 5 glow-up, with the game looking better than it ever has.
In an interview with Xbox Wire, Team Ninja studio head Fumihiko Yasuda said “The biggest reason for developing Ninja Gaiden 2 Black was to address the concerns of core fans who might be wondering, ‘What’s going to happen to Ryu Hayabusa?’ We also wanted to give players something to enjoy as they wait for the release of Ninja Gaiden 4.”
“We chose Ninja Gaiden 2 because it stands as one of the most solid action games in the series. We added ‘Black’ to the title to signal to fans that this is the definitive version, much like Ninja Gaiden Black was for the first game.”
