Helldivers 2 And Horizon: Zero Dawn Are Getting Movie Adaptations, While Ghost Of Tsushima: Legends Is Getting An Anime Series Adaptation

News about The Last Of Us Season 2 premiering this coming April 2025 wasn’t the only PlayStation Productions news that Sony had to unveil at its CES 2025 press conference.

We also learned about a few of the other projects in the works at Sony’s adaptations house, with two films and a new anime series announced.

Firstly, a film adaptation of Helldivers 2, and one for Horizon: Zero Dawn has been announced. The Helldivers announcement is no surprise, especially after the unexpectedly incredible year the game had, but the Horizon announcement is interesting.

Particularly because, as some of you might remember, there’s already a TV show incoming about Horizon. The show is rumoured to focus on parts of the story not wholly touched on in the games, so it could be a case that the show will fill in gaps the movie leaves, while the film is a more direct adaptation of the first game’s plot.

It’s all still extremely early days though, and no plot details for the TV show have been officially confirmed, so who knows how they’ll navigate the storytelling at this point. But it’ll be interesting to see how/if they weave it all together.

And secondly, another PlayStation Studios franchise that already has one adaptation planned, Ghost Of Tsushima is getting another – though this time it’s an anime series, and it’s not directly based on Ghost Of Tsushima – it’s based on Ghost Of Tsushima Legends.

The multiplayer add-on that was far better than anyone could have anticipated will be adapted into an anime series arriving sometime in 2027, with Takanobu Mizuno directing and Gen Urobuchi penning the story.

This adaptation is also the only one to include a couple of names for those working on it, as we still don’t know anything about the teams behind the Helldivers 2 and Horizon: Zero Dawn adaptations.
