MY.GAMES is renewing its “commitment” to growing in the midcore genre by selling Hunting Season publisher Mamboo to its founding team.

The sale will mark a move away from hybridcasual for MY.GAMES as the company will instead direct its attention to its “primary core business” – developing and publishing midcore titles.

Different directions

MY.GAMES acquired Mamboo three years ago as a publisher specialising in casual and hypercasual games. The deal enabled Mamboo to expand into hybridcasual, a category that’s boomed since 2021. Industry-wide, the genre generated 800% more revenue per MAU than hypercasual last year.

Companies like SayGames are still investing in the genre, but evidently midcore remains top priority for MY.GAMES. As a result of this difference in direction, the decision to separate has been reached.

After selling to its founding team, Mamboo will continue independently in hybridcasual games and the “skill-based” sector.

“Working with Mamboo has been a valuable journey for MY.GAMES. However, considering the different focuses of our businesses, we made a strategic decision to part our ways,” said MY.GAMES CEO Elena Grigorian.

“We believe that Mamboo has strong prospects in their niche and wish the team success in their future endeavours. We trust that this transition will allow Mamboo to continue growing toward their goals and enable their teams to unlock their full potential.

“As for MY.GAMES, we will remain committed to developing midcore games that captivate millions, lead their genres, and foster long-term engagement with players.”

A representative from the founding team added: “Mamboo has demonstrated stable year-over-year growth in revenue and EBITDA, along with a high number of daily active users. The company’s core business will remain focused on delivering best-in-class hybrid casual games worldwide.

“Following the completion of the recent deal, the founding team will concentrate on their strategic priorities in the skill-based gaming sector. With our extensive experience in scaling operations, we are confident in our ability to become a top five player in this genre within the next three years.”

Mamboo’s published games include Billion Builders, Volley Beans, Fish Idle and Shift Race, the latter having reached 15 million downloads in its first three months.
