Larian Studios Reveals Baldur’s Gate 3 Has Sold 2 Copies In Vatican City
Despite what sales charts will say, the biggest game of 2023 was no doubt Baldur’s Gate 3. Developer Larian Studios created not only one of the best RPG’s of all time, but one that pushed the genre forward in ways that we’ve not seen for years.
Which is why pretty much everyone and their mother bought a copy, and the studio’s publishing director Michael Douse took the time to point out that even in one of the world’s smallest countries, there are Baldur’s Gate 3 players.
Spotted by MP1st, Douse took to Twitter to point out that Larian has sold 2 copies of Baldur’s Gate 3 in Vatican City, which is one of the smallest countries in the world with a population of just 764 people.
It’s also, as you’re likely aware, the home of the Pope, and the headquarters of the Catholic Church. The majority of that 764 population work for the Catholic Church, which is what makes it interesting that Baldur’s Gate 3 has sold any copies there at all.
Because anyone who’s spent even a few minutes with Baldur’s Gate 3 can tell you it’s not the kind of thing you’d imagine Catholic bishops and priests are spending their time on.
There’s also 1 other person who has the game on their wish list, to which Douse jokes that he’d like to think that person “is just the Pope waiting until he has a free minute.”
“Sold 2 copies of Baldur’s Gate 3 in The Vatican, with 1 wishlist. I’d like to think that the latter is just the Pope waiting until he has a free minute. Wish I could see their mod list. Bet it’s absolutely gnarly,” Douse wrote.
He’s probably right. It surely is a gnarly mod list.
