Ubisoft has cancelled its puzzle and decorate mobile game Gwen’s Getaway.

As reported by MobileGamer.biz, the title will be unavailable from December 16th. In a statement, the team said the lessons learned from the project will be used in ongoing and future projects.

Gwen’s Getaway had been in soft launch since September 2023.

“After careful consideration, we have made the decision to discontinue the development of Gwen’s Getaway,” read a statement. “The game will become unavailable on 16 December 2024. Until then, players have the chance to complete their experience with the game, making the most of their remaining in-game currency, as well as any purchases they have made.

“Looking ahead, though, we want to assure you that all the work that went into creating Gwen’s Getaway will be valued and taken forward to both ongoing and future projects. Our studio remains committed to actively exploring opportunities to stay at the forefront of cross-platform technology and projects.

“We will work closely with our colleagues across Ubisoft to deliver some of the company’s biggest and most beloved brands and are excited to share more about this in the future.”

Ubisoft’s woes

Last year, we interviewed RedLynx’s managing director, Celine Pasula and Gwen’s Getaway games producer, Jon Kauppinen, who shared that the game had been “in development for a couple of years now,” with the idea of the game originating during the pandemic.

At the time of the interview, the development team was “focused on listening to the valuable feedback of players”.

Earlier this year, Ubisoft also halted the soft launch expansion of its Rainbow Six Mobile as the team “recognised areas for improvement”. Another mobile title, The Division Resurgence, also suffered delays.

Since then, Ubisoft has been tackling more setbacks, with the delay of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which has been pushed back to 2025. This news saw Ubisoft share prices fall to 10 year low, triggering rumours that Tencent and the Guillemot family may be considering a buyout of the company.
