Nintendo reveals Alarmo, the Nintendo sound clock

Nintendo has announced a new alarm clock. While we might not be privy to a Switch successor just yet, Nintendo has done the very Nintendo thing of taking an everyday object and, well, Nintendo-ifying it. It looks bonkers, and we absolutely want one.

Alarmo will wake you up the Nintendo way. That means it uses sounds and images from mainline characters from games like Super Mario Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild to start your day.

Sounds and images are one thing, but Nintendo  is no stranger to motion controls. It should be no surprise, then, that Alarmo also features motion sensors that respond to your movements. This might seem odd at first but hear us out. With Alarmo, you can virtually hit that snooze button simply by waving your arm. Don’t want that in your life? The device comes with a more traditional button for snoozing the old-fashioned way, just in case.

Your morning routine can be tailored to one of 35 Nintendo-themed scenes. Apart from the aforementioned Mario and Zelda options, you’ll also have access to Pikmin 4 and Ring Fit Adventure. Plus, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Animal Crossing: New Horizons scenes will be released as free updates in the future, though you’ll need to connect your My Nintendo account to access them.

Here’s how Nintendo puts the Alarmo experience:

In the morning you’ll experience immersive sounds and music from the scene you picked. Rise to sounds of the Mushroom Kingdom with Mario and friends, begin your day’s adventure with Link and Princess Zelda, or start fresh with the Inklings from Splatoon 3. And those are just some of the experiences you can wake up to!

Sleep is pretty important, and Alarmo isn’t just here to help you wake up. Yo ucan also check your records to see how much you move around in your sleep, set an hourly chime themed to your chosen title, and change between Steady or Gentle Modes for your morning alarm.

Steady Mode sets off an alarm that will gradually get more intense the longer you stay in bed, whereas Gentle Mode offers a more consistent intensity level. You can even use sleepy sounds to wind down with soothing music and sounds at your set bedtime.

Currently, Alramo can only be purchased by Nintendo Switch Online and Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members in the U.S. and Canada via the My Nintendo Store. If you’re not a member, you can sign up of course, or you could pop in to the Nintendo NY store.

If you’re located in other territories, you can pre-register for early access to Alarmo.

Check out the trailer below, which shows how the alarm works as well some of the different characters and sounds availble.
