A Naughty Dog Job Listing Suggests The Studio Is Working On AI-Focused Systems

As spotted by TheGamer, it seems that a job listing for The Last Of Us developer Naughty Dog suggests that the studio is working on systems for it to use A.I. in its development processes.

A role for an animation programmer lists that the studio is looking for someone who can “Invent, develop, maintain, and improve upon gameplay animation systems that leads the industry in quality while maintaining robust flexibility for use by AI, designers, and script.”

It’s the first bullet point listed on the advert, and it’s an intriguing thing to see on a Naughty Dog listing because it seemingly goes along with what we heard from Naughty Dog boss Neil Druckmann earlier this year in a debunked interview Sony conducted with Druckmann.

The interview has been since taken down, but not before Druckmann was allegedly misquoted when he said “AI is really going to revolutionize how content is being created, although it does bring up some ethical issues we need to address”

“With technologies like AI and the ability to do motion capture right from home, we’re reducing both costs and technical hurdles, opening the door for us to take on more adventurous projects and push the boundaries of storytelling in games.

This evolution is truly empowering creators to bring their visions to life without the traditional obstacles.”

Druckmann published his version of what he said, but the point remains that this advert directly suggests the studio is developing systems to work in tandem with AI technology.

For now, it’s animation related. How much further it goes will be interesting to see.
