Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft showrunner says the series will highlight Lara facing her grief

Back in June, Netflix announced the release date for their animated series, Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft. You’ll be able to stream the show in its entirety on October 10, 2024. Today, ahead of that release, we’ve gotten a bit more insight on the series from the showrunner.

In an interview with Nerdist, Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft showrunner Tasha Huo shed some light on what we can expect from the cartoon’s first season. While there will be plenty of action and spectacle, the story itself is going to take a serious an introspective tone.

Lara has been burdened with grief since the ‘90s, but I feel like she’s never fully gotten over it. And I wanted to move past it, to be honest, so that she could start working on other things, but it felt like we still had to address it. So in this first season, she is dealing with grief and we watch her power through to figure out how to become her best self after that so Lara can start working on other sh*t.

The animated series Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft picks up after the events of the highly successful Tomb Raider video game Survivor trilogy (Tomb Raider; Rise of the Tomb Raider; Shadow of the Tomb Raider), and will chart the globetrotting heroine’s next chapter as the iconic adventurer. More than 25 years after her first appearance, Lara Croft (voiced by Hayley Atwell) continues to explore ancient mysteries and uncover lost truths across breathtaking and dangerous destinations.
