Kong: Survivor Instinct Gameplay Showcased, Makes You Wonder How The Last Of Us Would’ve Gone If King Kong Helped Joel

Last week Legendary Entertainment announced that it would be publishing new games based on its Monsterverse franchise, specifically games based on King Kong and Godzilla.

Only one of those titles is meant for PC and consoles, Kong: Survivor Instinct. Described as a 2.5D action-adventure game, we now have a full picture as to what that looks like with its first official trailer.

Developed by 7Levels, the story of Kong: Survivor Instinct follows a father who is searching for his daughter after the Titans attacked and caused mass destruction and chaos.

You’ll deal with all sorts of dangers along the way, but when you run into a titan, who else but the king of the jungle himself, King Kong, arrives to help you. It kind of looks like you’re watching a trailer for The Last Of Us but only the part where Joel is trying to save Ellie and it’s in 2.5D and King Kong is there.

Not that Joel needed King Kong’s help, as the game’s story shows – but it probably would’ve all turned out at least a bit differently if he was involved. Or at least, it would’ve wrapped up a lot faster, since it would’ve been tough to put down the king. And if he got infected, then it would’ve been a whole other ball game

It’ll be interesting to see how this game does – it already looks leagues better than the last King Kong-based game to release, so hopefully 7Levels can nail the gameplay and establish Kong: Survivor Instinct as ‘the good King Kong game’ to come out within recent years.

Speaking of its release, the trailer doesn’t give us an exact release date, but it does reiterate what Legendary Entertainment had already confirmed, that it’s planned to release sometime in Fall 2024.
