“Not Great,” Is Reportedly The Sentiment On How Marathon’s Development Is Going At Bungie
Bungie just went through another mass layoff with 220 developers losing their jobs, and on top of that hundreds more developers were moved around from Bungie to Sony Interactive Entertainment or spun-off into their own new internal studio under PlayStation Studios.
All of that means less people at Bungie that could be working on the studio’s main projects like Destiny and the upcoming Marathon. While the Destiny team just finished shipping The Final Shape, the pressure is now on the Marathon team to deliver.
So it doesn’t exactly bode well to hear that, according to Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier, sentiment around Marathon at Bungie is “not great.”
During a guest spot on the Friends Per Second Podcast, Schreier was asked to provide a “temperature check” on how Marathon is going, after speaking to a number of Bungie employees for some of his recent reporting.
” *laughs* Not great, from what I’ve heard. There’s a reason that it was planned for this year and slipped a whole year, and people that I’ve talked to are a little pessimistic about it even hitting its current planned deadline.
But we’ll see.”
Hopefully for Bungie’s sake, things do pull in the right direction by the time Marathon is on shelves and digital storefronts.
