Daxter, God Of War: Chains Of Olympus Developer Ready At Dawn Studios Is Being Shut Down By Meta
Ready At Dawn Studios is a team that is perhaps unfamiliar to younger PlayStation fans, but for those of us who still remember them, the news that its parent company Meta has chosen to shut down Ready At Dawn, is incredibly sad.
Back in the days where Sony was actually trying to compete in the handheld market, the PlayStation Portable was arguably one of the best handheld consoles of its time. Despite its quirks, it was a great little device, with more than a few great games only playable on the little console.
For a time those games included the likes of Daxter, a PSP spin-off from the Jak and Daxter series and two God Of War games, Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta, both of which provided key background storytelling on Kratos.
Ready at Dawn was the team behind each of those games, and then in the PS4 era they were also the team behind The Order: 1886.
Despite working on an exclusive IP for PlayStation in The Order: 1886, and working on some of PlayStation’s biggest IP’s at the time, the relationship Ready At Dawn had with PlayStation never did end up with it becoming an official part of PlayStation Studios.
Following its work with PlayStation, Ready At Dawn went on to make VR games with its Echo VR franchise. That’s what led it to Meta, though now it’s sad to see that only four years after it was acquired by Meta, it’s gone forever.
Hopefully those developers impacted by the shut down are able to land on their feet.
