New Dragon Age The Veilguard Details Confirm 7 Unique Companions, Combat Was A ‘Big Focus’ Of The Development Team
Fresh details on Dragon Age: The Veilguard have emerged following BioWare’s announcement yesterday regarding the change in title for the upcoming fantasy-RPG (it was previously known as Dragon Age: Dreadwolf).
For starters, Dragon Age: The Veilguard will feature seven unique companions throughout this new adventure, each possessing “deep and compelling storyline,” while the game’s new title reflects the story’s group of companion. The Dreadwolf, aka Solas, still remains a major part of the narrative, however.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard sees players controlling an original protagonist similar to The Warden, Hawke, and The Inquisitor, who, combined with your companions, makes up the titular Veilguard. Furthermore, each of the companions in the game represents different factions, and have their own arcs featuring “stories of love and loss, each with meaningful choices and emotional moments.”

Meanwhile, Dragon Age: The Veilguard will be pretty expansive in terms of locations, with players visiting more regions of Thedas “across a deeper variety of biomes than any Dragon Age before it.” In addition, combat was a “big focus” for the development team, and implements an ability wheel that you can use to pause the action, which aims to give players more direct control over their characters.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard is scheduled for release on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S, with a release date yet to be confirmed. The first gameplay footage will debut on June 11, 2024, so stay tuned for our coverage of that when it drops.
