PS4 ‘Remains An Important Part Of Our Business,’ Says Sony
Speaking during its business segment meeting on Wednesday, Sony Interactive Entertainment revealed that the PS4 “is still an important part” of its business, despite the PS5 having launched nearly four years ago.
Sony’s Hideaki Nishino revealed that the PS4 accounts for approximately half of its monthly active console users, which amounts to 49 million users. As previously reportedly, Sony confirmed that the PS5 is is most profitable generation to date.
As you can see, the PlayStation 5 userbase has continued to grow significantly, driving to half of our monthly active consoles. While the PlayStation 4 is still an important part of our business, our PlayStation 5 players are even more engaged than in our previous generation, and we expect these trends to continue.

The PS4 was released in November 2013 in the US and Europe and arrived in Japan the following February. PS5 meanwhile arrived in November 2020 during the coronavirus pandemic, leading to long-running stock shortages that wouldn’t subside until January 2023.
