GamesIndustry.Biz, VG247, Eurogamer, Rock Paper Shotgun And Dicebreaker Acquired By IGN Entertainment
The latest games industry related acquisition has come from the games media side of the aisle, as IGN Entertainment and its parent company Ziff Davis have acquired Gamer Network, the parent company for some of games media’s biggest sites.
GamesIndustry.Biz, Eurogamer (and it’s six local language variants), Rock Paper Shotgun, VG247 and Dicebreaker are all now owned by IGN Entertainment and Ziff Davis.
These five outlets are some of the biggest in games media, and for them to now be owned by the same company that runs the biggest games media site worldwide is a massive point of consolidation.
Along with the acquisition also unfortunately comes more layoffs, with some of the best games journalists in the industry now looking for somewhere new to hang their hats.
It’s always disappointing to see layoffs like this, but there’s something immensely disappointing about some of games media’s top veterans being impacted by this layoff. Hopefully those affected are able to land on their feet quickly.
