Apex Legends Aims To Expand Beyond ‘Traditional Battle Royale Universe’ In 2024

Apex Legends is now in its fifth year and while other games would be slowing down at this point, EA and Respawn are hoping to grow the live service IP “beyond the traditional battle royale universe” in 2024.

Speaking at the Morgan Stanley conference recently, EA CEO Andrew Wilson believes this particular IP has an opportunity for “incredible growth” and teased future phases covering the next 5-10 years.

The immediate focus will be making the game more accessible to help drive engagement and this will then lead to the second and third phases, which look to expand beyond the traditional battle royale universe and break into new markets:

“The next phase will then be, how do we think about more modalities of play, how do you expand beyond the traditional battle royale universe? And we’ll start to see that in the coming year.

“The third phase will be, how do we really think about broader culturalisation? There are so many markets, particularly in Europe and though Aisa, where we just haven’t broken through yet.”

If you haven’t given Apex Legends a go yet, it’s now in its 20th Season (and fifth anniversary season) Breakout, which launched last month in February. It recently got a 120 FPS update for Xbox Series X|S, too.
