Rumour – AAA Single-Player Survival-Horror SAW Game In The Works
A AAA single-players, survival horror-focused SAW game is rumoured to be in development, according to known industry insider/leaker The Tipster.
The Tipster alleged that the game will be everything previously listed, and that it’ll be a multi-platform title which likely means PS5 and the rest of the suite of current-gen platforms.
They also claim that it’ll be arriving sometime in 2025, with a reveal planned for later in 2024.
“A multiplat AAA saw game is currently in development under the internal code name “project_gideon” the game has a focus on single player survival horror and will follow an original story. Announcement is expected sometime 2024 with a Q1/Q2 2025 release date.”
Beyond The Tipster’s allegations, there’s nothing to this rumour so take it with the grain of salt its worth. Still, that a SAW game is in the works at all isn’t entirely surprising.
It’s clear that Lionsgate is at least shopping around the idea of a SAW game to developers, since Bloober Team talked about how it chose Blair Witch over SAW as the IP it wanted to work on.
Lionsgate came to us and said, ‘Guys, we love [Bloober’s breakout game] Layers of Fear. We saw what you are doing with Observer, so we would like to work with you. We know that you would like to do your own games, so please, this is our list of our horror IPs; choose one.’
We could [have chosen] Saw, which is more popular than Blair Witch, but we decided to take Blair Witch because the universe has many opportunities to build something new. That was the reason why we chose this project.
It’s also clear that Lionsgate is trying to be more aggressive in adapting its IP into games, with the coming John Wick title being an example.
If The Tipster is indeed right about this game, then it would be great to see a team take another stab at a Saw game.
