PS Portal Will Reportedly Be Tracked By Circana As A Console, Not An Accessory
Mat Piscatella, analyst with Circana, has revealed in a now-deleted Tweet that the the company will be tracking PlayStation Portal as a console, allegedly due to a request by Sony Interactive Entertainment.
This is probably a bit of a surprise considering the PS Portal is not a console; it’s technically an accessory that uses Remote Play to stream PS5 content to the handheld device. It can’t function without being connected to a PS5, either.

PS Portal launched earlier this month and to be fair is performing a lot better than most probably imagined, with preorders selling out in Japan and a restock at PlayStation Direct being snapped up in 10 minutes. Furthermore, the device also outsold the Xbox Series X/S in Spain.
Sony has previously said that the PS Portal was not designed with profitability in mind, but from the look of things so far, it could perform a lot better than expected for the hardware manufacturer.
