PS5 Slim Teardown Details Console Changes (Or Lack Thereof)

As we approach the launch of the PS5 Slim in the U.S. this month, a slew of teardown videos have cropped up on YouTube detailing the changes – or lack thereof – of Sony’s new revision.

One such video is that of Linus Tech Tips who, with the help of off-brand faceplate seller dbrand, has secured a PS5 Slim and has run the rule over what we can expect to see once it releases.

Beyond what we’ve already come to know via official channels, on the whole there aren’t a lot of changes in fact.

On the front, we now have two USB Type-Cs rather than just the one of prior models. The disc eject button has also been moved onto the optical slot which makes sense given its modular nature.

In terms of the innards, beyond the hard drive space bump (825GB to 1TB) there isn’t much to report. The PS5 Slim is marginally quieter except for on the optical drive side, and the power draw is virtually identical on average across multiple scenarios.

It’s also been confirmed that it contains the same 6nm die as PS5’s previous stealth revision, ‘CFI-1200′.

What has surprised numerous commentators, however, is just how small the Slim looks when put against its older brother, but beyond what can be considered superficial there’s little reason for current owners to look to upgrade. Best wait for the rumoured PS5 Pro if you’re so inclined.
