Bungie Is Reportedly Using Unreal Engine For Its New IP Codenamed ‘Gummy Bears’
According to a report on The Game Post, Bungie’s new IP, which is codenamed Gummy Bears, is being powered by the Unreal Engine.
Gummy Bears is an interesting codename and will no doubt ring a bell with Disney fans of a certain age, as it’s obviously a reference to the classic 1980s cartoon of the same name. The project itself is Bungie’s first new IP in nearly 10 years due to its work on the Destiny franchise, and will reportedly include competitive PvP team vs. Combat with “brightly coloured” characters and isometric gameplay.
Beyond this, the report also claims that Project Gummy Bears will implement real-time strategy elements into the mix, although details are unclear at this point as it’s still in early production. It should be noted, however, that this will be the first Bungie game to use a commercial engine, as its previous works have utilised in-house technology such as the Tiger Engine.

Reports that the game will utilise Unreal Engine tech have been hinted at before. Back in May 2023, a series of job listings indicated that Bungie was looking to use Epic Games’ engine to power its new IP, and indeed this now appears to be the case. Two years previously, another job listing revealed the title would include competitive PvP multiplayer.
