Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Won’t Let You Use Your FFVII Remake Save To Keep Your Level & Abilities

Speaking on the PlayStation Blog, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Game Director, Naoki Hamaguchi has revealed that players will not be able to use their Final Fantasy VII Remake saves to transfer their abilities and level to the sequel, although some bonus content will be unlocked for those who have a Remake save file.

Here’s what Hamaguchi-san had to say on the matter:

We have announced that the Final Fantasy VII remake project will be a trilogy and that each entry will be a standalone game in its own right. Because of this, each game’s balancing is done independently and a player’s levels and abilities will not carry over from one game to the next. However, we have created some special bonuses for fans who played the previous game, allowing them to start with a little something extra.

Square Enix confirmed in a new trailer released yesterday that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will launch on February 29, 2024, and will be exclusive to the PS5 for at least three months. In addition, the developer revealed how far the sequel will take players in the story before the game ends (at which point the third part in the remake trilogy takes over), and confirmed Sephiroth will be playable in Rebirth.
