Embracer Group Is Reportedly Considering Selling Borderlands Developer Gearbox Software

A report on Reuters claims that Embracer Group is thinking about selling off Borderlands developer Gearbox Software.

Citing “three people familiar with the matter” that agreed to speak under condition of anonymity, the report states that a sale is one of a number of options that the Swedish firm is considering for the developer, so it may not actually happen. Reportedly, Embracer has attracted interest from third parties interested in purchasing Gearbox, and consist of “international gaming groups” that have access to the developers marketing materials.

Gearbox was acquired by Embracer Group in 2021 for a reported sum of up to $1.4 billion, and the publisher has been snapping up numerous companies over the past few years. However, recently it announced a major restructuring process that would see a number of studios shut down as a result. Indeed, last week it was confirmed that Volition, the company behind Saints Row, had closed its door after 30 years.
