‘Quake II’, ‘Rainbow Skies’, ‘Acceptance’, Plus Today’s Other Releases and Sales – TouchArcade

Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for August 11th, 2023. In today’s article, we mop up the remaining releases of the week. A couple of good games, a couple of decent games, and a handful of dubious ones. After summarizing those, there’s not much else to do but head into the lists of new sales and expiring discounts for the day. Some nice deals to be had, if you’re in the mood to spend. Let’s get to the games!

New Releases

Quake II ($9.99)

‘Quake II’, ‘Rainbow Skies’, ‘Acceptance’, Plus Today’s Other Releases and Sales – TouchArcade

Okay, this was the worst-kept secret of the week, but let’s pretend to be surprised. Quake II suddenly released out of nowhere, everyone! It features the original game, the two original mission packs, a new expansion, and even Quake II 64. You can play with up to four players by splitscreen, eight players by local wireless, and sixteen players online. It also supports cross play, so you don’t have to count on the Switch’s online pool alone. This is a bonkers value for ten bucks provided you don’t, like, hate first-person shooters or something like that.

Rainbow Skies ($19.99)

We don’t have Rainbow Moon on the Switch and who knows if we’ll ever see it, but here’s the sequel. It’s a turn-based tactical RPG, and while it didn’t exactly ring a lot of bells with critics back when it released on Vita and PlayStation 4 several years ago, it connected well enough with fans. I’m playing this one right now and will be doing a review of it soon, so do look forward to that. Reviews of the other versions are of course plentiful online if you don’t want to wait for my words.

Acceptance ($5.99)

This one covers heavy topics, so if you’re sensitive about things like suicide you might want to give this a pass. It’s a psychological horror game dealing with loss and moving forward, and it’s mainly a story-focused affair. Not a game I feel like playing right here and now, but some people might get something from it.

Bright Lights of Svetlov ($9.99)

Yes, those appear to be some bright lights. I can’t confirm if they are of Svetlov, but I am willing to take the game’s word for it. This game follows the story of a family in the USSR, and it starts off with very routine activities. Kind of a little tale that you take an active part in. It seems to have reviewed well enough on other platforms, but do be aware that it’s not a very long game. Nothing wrong with that, mind you. Just be aware.

Bokura ($5.49)

This is a puzzle platformer designed to be played by two players and only two players. You can play with some online or locally, but you cannot play alone. Each player controls one of a pair of boys who have run away from home seeking adventure. I’m not too big on this kind of thing, but it’s reasonably priced for those who are.

The Bin Bunch

Arcade Snake Go! ($0.99)

Prison Life Simulator Jail – Gangster Escape Games Scary Architect Battle ($12.99)

Wizards Legacy – Nightmare Park Manager Simulator ($9.99)

Wroom Wroom Puzzles ($19.99)

Hentai Stars ($19.99)

Sales

(North American eShop, US Prices)

First up, Picross sales. If you need to fill your Picross boots, Jupiter’s got what you need. Dice Legacy is at a new low price, and there are some great deals on an assortment of shoot-em-ups. If you want to grab Disney Speedstorm before it goes properly free-to-play, there’s a little deal on it. Well, comb through the list. I’m sure you’ll find something to like. The weekend outbox is virtually empty, so you can pretty much focus on the new sales. You know, unless you really want Farm Slider or something.
